The End Of DVD?

Universal Pictures are allowing people to download movies - provided they pay for them.

All valid points Nemesis, people will continue to want to a have as immersive an experience of watching film as possible. However, can't you plug your computer into your massive plasma screen. I take your point about the special features as well but I think these will have to dramatically improve in terms of quality in order for them to continue to be a USP (Unique Selling Point) for DVDs. Love the tag, by the way.

It seems many of you are anxious not to lose the physical experience of owning and watching films. In respons to l.k.j, what Universal are trying to do is counter the trend for illegal downloading, just as I-tunes is embraced by the record industry as it is a way of reducing illegal music downloads. Both of these initiatives are a rather late acceptance of the fact that people want to download music and films and that they will do so, whether it is legal or not. This is a very good example of the consumer, or audience, driving the development of new technologies rather than the institutions.
