The above article in The Guardian has transcript of Jeremy Paxman's interview with Dizzy Rascal after Obama won the American Presidential Election. Lots of issues to explore here - representation of ethnicity, audience appeal, dumbing down, news and institutional values. . Read the article and reference the points and 'experts' in your exam responses. You can also look at interview on Youtube

that is terrible "mr rascal, do you consider yourself british?"
whaaaat??? that is definatly patronising.

and why did the BBC choose to have dizzee rascal on a newsnight programme in the first place???
Newround, maybe, but the type of audiences Newsnight attracts, that surely was a bad move.

"If you believe you can achieve innit" . This is in no way subverts the stereotypical view of black youth today. I agree with Annie, surely they knew that their typical demographic would not necessarily appreciate his views.

i don't know if it was a completely bad move to have dizee rascal on the show, it shows they are getting diverse opinions and guests, however it ended up being a bit comedic in my opinion, when he said that he should run for prime minister and when they showed the pictures of the martion thing,"i wont vaporise you all.....honest", shows that it is not really serious, although that was quite funny.
